According to an article posted today on The New York Times website, a new federal study reports an alarming stat regarding teenage African-American females and certain STD’s. According to the study, nearly half of this group is infected with one of the following: Human Papillomavirus, chlamydia, Herpes simplex type 2 and trichomoniasis, which is a parasite that causes vaginal discomfort. These S.T.D.s can cause several long-term complications, such as infertility and cervical cancer, which is why The Centers for Disease control advises that sexually active women under 25 undergo annual screenings for chlamydia.
