Thanks to our new friend Leon A. Walker for contributing this insightful op-ed piece..

(March 31, 200 8) I believe we are currently witnessing an exquisite political strategy being executed by the Democratic Party Leadership. This, in the form of an orchestrated trickle of Super Delegates publicly indicating support for Senator Barack Obama. The recent endorsements in favor of Senator Obama by Bill Richardson and Bob Casey are among the first key indicators. Additionally, that trickle I have suggested may well develop into a stunning trend even before the important primary contest in Pennsylvania. If I am right, not only will this influence the Pennsylvania voting, it will send a clear message of doom to Senator Clinton.

Clearly there is no direct or clear path for either candidate to gain the required number of delegates prior to the Democratic National Convention. This alone, without considering any of the many further impacts is simple grounds for the contest to continue. However there is an obvious and growing advantage in favor of Senator Obama in terms of sheer numbers. This is the basis for the many discussions and comments about the necessity for Senator Clinton to concede and withdraw. Under the current rules she simply can not expect to catch up. Basically, the voters have already spoken. She may say what she likes but a decision (Clinton Nomination) at the convention is nothing more than a pipe dream. Read More »

In order to bring fairness and understanding to counter-act this nonsense about race and prejudice…*as you all know I’m trying to do…lol* I discovered this while researching to enlighten our readers. I will post 1-25 today, 26-50 tomorrow…etc… Enjoy! Thank you’s to Robin Walker for this!

1. The human race is of African origin. The oldest known skeletal remains of anatomically modern humans (or homo sapiens) were excavated at sites in East Africa. Human remains were discovered at Omo in Ethiopia that were dated at 195,000 years old, the oldest known in the world.

2. Skeletons of pre-humans have been found in Africa that date back between 4 and 5 million years. The oldest known ancestral type of humanity is thought to have been the australopithecus ramidus, who lived at least 4.4 million years ago.

3. Africans were the first to organise fishing expeditions 90,000 years ago. At Katanda, a region in northeastern Zaïre (now Congo), was recovered a finely wrought series of harpoon points, all elaborately polished and barbed. Also uncovered was a tool, equally well crafted, believed to be a dagger. The discoveries suggested the existence of an early aquatic or fishing based culture. Read More »

Picture of Sean Levert

I have some sad news…Sean Levert, R&B Singer of “Levert” fame, son of the O’Jays Eddie Levert, and brother of the Late Gerald Levert has passed away in a Cleveland Area hospital. He was sent there late Sunday night from the County Jail where he was serving time for non-payment of Child Support. Reportedly he was 39. Very sad, especially since his brother Gerald just passed away in 2006.

According to two new Gallup polls released this week, Barack Obama has not only rebounded from the Jeremiah Wright controversy, but has gained some steam. In the tracking poll, conducted between the dates of March 27th to March 29th, likely Democratic Voters chose Obama 52% to Clinton’s 42%, opening a double digit lead. This is the first double digit lead since Feb. when Clinton was ahead of Obama by 11 points.

This move towards Obama could be attributed to many factors, one being Hillary’s Bosnia flap and her subsequent bad handling of it, another could be the overall positive reaction to Barack’s statement on race, and his handling of the Jeremiah Wright issue as a whole.

Another Gallup poll, which measured the amount of Clinton supporters that would end up voting for Obama if he won, and vice-versa, seems to point to a rift developing in the Democratic Party, due to the intense infighting surrounding the two Democratic candidates. According to the poll, 28% percent of Clinton supporters said that they would vote Republican if Barack wins the Nomination, compared to 19% percent of Obama supporters who would vote Republican if Hillary wins.

Either way, these numbers may point to problems for both candidates during the General Election. While l personally believe that these results reflect a temporary division, stemming from the emotional polarization of both Hillary’s and Barack’s supporters during the nomination battle, I am concerned about the 28% of Hillary supporters who say that they would vote for McCain. Why would someone actually go from Clinton to McCain, since they differ so much in the issues? While it may be that some of Hillary’s Senior base may identify with McCain’s age and experience in Washington, it could also point to some old attitudes regarding race, which means that Obama may have to make a few more speeches to win the Presidency.

This week Judge Mathis of TV fame and a Detroit native, denied claims that he is helping with Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s legal defense fund. He told the Detroit Free Press via fax that Mayor Kilpatrick contacted him on Wednesday asking for his support, and at that time he advised the Mayor that he could not support him. Here’s some quotes from his statement:

“This is the same type of deceit that has plunged our city into a deep crisis,”

Mathis wen’t on to say:

“Not only do I not support him, but I recommend he resign so the city can heal and move forward.”

Wow…tell em’ how you really feel Judge!

Well I just happened to be watching Fox News today, (don’t ask me why…) and one of the interviews that they did was with a sister who had a novel idea. According to her, she went to the card store to pick up a greeting card for a person who was locked up, and she did not see one that fit the occasion. So she decided to open a company that makes greeting cards aimed that those who are incarcerated. While I can’t say that it isn’t a good idea, I don’t know about some of the messages in the cards. Here is an example of one:

Outside Message: Happy Valentine’s Day

Inside Message: If it weren’t for those walls, I’d give you lots of hugs and kisses.

and another:

Outside Message: Happy Birthday

Inside Message: It’s your birthday and I know that you’d rather be almost anywhere else right now. Hopefully, one year older will really mean one year wiser for you. Take care.

You know, I haven’t been a big fan of Condoleezza Rice in the past due to her co-signing of Bush’s destructive domestic and foreign policies. But yesterday, in an interview with the Washington Times, I think that Condi was right on the money when discussing the issue of race. In the interview, she said that the race problems that we are facing in the U.S. are due to this nation’s “birth defect.” She went on to describe that “birth defect” as the fact that African-Americans present during the foundation of this country were not given the same opportunities as whites. Here’s some quotes from the interview:

“Black Americans were a founding population,” she said. “Africans and Europeans came here and founded this country together — Europeans by choice and Africans in chains. That’s not a very pretty reality of our founding.”

“descendants of slaves did not get much of a head start, and I think you continue to see some of the effects of that.”

She also said that Barack’s speech on race was important for a whole host of reasons. Please read this interview because it is very eye-opening. Go Condi! I’m with you on this one…But you still need to stop saying that “No Child Left Behind” is working for our children. What do you think about Condi’s observations on race? Speak out!

According to an article from the Charlotte Observer, Hillary Clinton told a group of Black Journalists yesterday that she rejected the “ugly perception” that her campaign uses race as a tactic. She went on to say that there are “painful moments” in every campaign, and that supporters from both sides have crossed the line. During the 30 minute conference call she also touted her record of support for black issues, and advised that no matter what the differences are between her and Obama, either one of them are better than McCain. Do you think that the Clinton Campaign is uses or has used race as a tactic? Speak out!!

Contrary to popular belief, Obama has decided to make it a contest in the Keystone State. Beginning today, Obama will board a campaign bus and take a six day trip across Pennsylvania in hopes of decreasing Hillary’s advantage and stealing some delegates. At this point Hillary is ahead in the polls by a double digit margin, but if Barack can make some inroads during his trip, and bring the actual primary margin within single digits, it would most likely be considered a win because he would maintain the majority of his delegate lead.

Here’s an interesting article from the Star-Ledger in NJ, in it the author discusses the history of African-Americans, Latinos, and Women portraying the Commander-In Chief in TV and Film.
